Burnham & Highbridge Choral Society is seeking to appoint a Musical Director

from September 2020

We are looking for a dynamic and motivational choral conductor with excellent communication skills, a sense of fun and a clear directing style: The   Burnham   &   Highbridge   Choral   Society   (BHCS)   is   a   friendly,   non-auditioned   choir   based   in   Burnham-on-Sea   in   Somerset,   and   has   currently   50   -   60 members   with   differing   levels   of   musical   ability   and   experience.   We   rehearse   on   Thursday   evenings   from   7.30   to   9.30pm   at   the   Burnham   Methodist   Church Hall in College Street. Traditionally   there   have   been   two   performances   each   year,   one   in   December,   usually   held   in   the   town’s   Catholic   church,   and   the   other   in   March/April   usually held   in   St   Andrew’s   Church.   The   Spring   Concert   usually   features   an   orchestral   ensemble   and   guest   soloists.   In   the   summer   term,   a   few   of   us   get   together   to have an informal Summer Sing. Occasional requests to perform at local events are considered by the Committee. The   choir   works   with   a   professional   accompanist   for   rehearsals   and   performances   and   has   generally   performed   a   repertoire   of   sacred,   secular,   classical,   and stage music. Conducting all rehearsals and concerts. Selecting and engaging soloists and advising on instrumental requirements for the Spring concert. Attending committee meetings as an ex officio member on request. Attending and reporting to the AGM. Essential qualifications include: Knowledge of directing and conducting choral works. Knowledge of a wide range of choral music. The ability to communicate with enthusiasm, passion, encouragement and good humour. An ability to bring out the best from a choir with varying abilities. The ability to work in collaboration with the committee. Shortlisted   candidates   will   be   invited   to   interview   and   to   conduct   part   of   a   choir   rehearsal;   procedures   for   these   will   depend   upon   Coronavirus   constraints.   The position attracts a remuneration dependant upon experience.
