BHCS Analysis of Risk Mitigations Associated with Return to Rehearsals September

Introduction

1. The Committee has a duty of care to ensure that members (as far as reasonably practicable) are not exposed to risks to their health and safety 2. The principal risks involved are from: a. Aerosol spread. b. Droplet spread. c. Surface spread.

Aim

3. The aim of this paper is to determine what actions must be taken to mitigate the risks to the choir.

Aerosol Spread

4. This is the spread of minute particles normally breathed in and out. 5. The main mitigations are: a. Maximum ventilation. b. The use of face coverings.

Droplet Spread

6. This is the transmission of larger particles (for example by sneezing) which travel a short distance. 7. The main mitigations are: a. Maintaining distance. b. The use of face coverings. c. The use of screens.

Surface Spread

8. This is the transmission of disease caused by people touching surfaces. 9. The main mitigations are: a. Frequent handwashing/sanitisation. b. Frequent cleaning of surfaces.

Actions to be taken by BHCS

10. Members should be encouraged to take a lateral flow test prior to rehearsals. 11. Members should not attend rehearsal if they: a. Have had tested positive for Covid-19 (PCR or Lateral Flow). b. Have been told to self-isolate. c. Have Covid-19 symptoms or feel unwell. d. Are quarantining after a trip abroad. 12. All windows and doors at the Hall are to be opened before rehearsal starts. 13. Chairs are to be laid out to give the maximum distance between them, particularly between rear and front rows. 14. No refreshments will be provided – members should bring their own. 15. A register of attendance is to be maintained. 16. Members are to be encouraged to wear face coverings when not rehearsing. Some may prefer to wear coverings when rehearsing too. 17. Hand sanitisation is to be provided at the entrance to the hall. 18. Members should sanitise their hands on arrival and departure. 19. Should anyone become ill during rehearsal, they should go home and follow NHS procedures. 20. Should anyone test positive immediately after a rehearsal, they should inform the secretary.
