About Us
The
Burnham
and
Highbridge
Choral
Society
began
its
life
in
1972
as
the
Parish
Choir.
You
can
see more of our
history
here.
Our
aim
has
always
been
to
bring
a
high
standard
of
music
together
with
an
orchestral
element to our local audience.
We are a cheerful and friendly choir that welcomes new members without audition.
Our
four
sections,
Soprano,
Alto,
Tenor
and
Bass
form
firm
friendships
with
other
members
and
try
to
look
out
for
each
other
both
inside
and
outside
of
our
singing
commitments.
We
generally manage to maintain between 50 and 60 in the choir.
We
have
a
broad
repertoire
,
and
have
two
major
public
performances
a
year.
In
the
Autumn
term
we
rehearse
for
a
Christmas
concert
in
December,
and
in
January
begin
rehearsing
for
the
Spring
Concert
in
April.
In
addition
to
these,
we
also
try
to
do
some
carol
singing
to
raise
money and are sometimes asked to join in community events.
Some
of
our
members
have
made
the
journey
to
The
Albert
Hall
each
year
to
join
in
with
The
Really Big Chorus
, which is a really good day.
In
January
some
of
us
have
made
it
a
habit
to
join
the
annual
concert
in
the
Colston
Hall,
Bristol
to
raise
money
for
Cancer
Research.
Other
Societies
often
run
Singing
Days
throughout
the
year
which
we
can
attend.
In
the
past
we
have
combined
with
Weston
Choral
Society
to
run a Sing Day.
Since 2021 we have been lucky enough to have J
ames Davies
as our Musical Director. Our accompanist is the very accomplished
Frances Webb
.
Two
of
our
recent
concerts
which
proved
very
popular
were
Karl
Jenkins'
The
Armed
Man
and
Benjamin
Britten's
St
Nicolas.
We
sing
beautiful
music,
but
also
like a challenge when the occasion arises and give it our best.
We meet on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in Burnham-on-Sea Methodist Church Hall. All are very welcome.
If you would like to sing with us please email the
Secretary
or phone 01278 783511
